Imagining America is now accepting proposals for sessions at the annual National Gathering to be held in October.

This year’s National Gathering will be held in Providence, Rhode Island Oct. 20-22 in partnership with College Unbound, AS220, the City of Providence, and a diverse local steering committee. Session types include lightning talks, workshops, works of art, collective art-making activities, presentations and more.

The 2023 IA National Gathering theme of Radical Reckoning invokes the elements of fire, water, earth, and air to inspire collaboration, offer new lessons and approaches, and demonstrate how the process of reckoning is both reflective and active.

LCC is a member of Imagining America (IA), a nationwide consortium of higher education and community partners established in the 1990s to foster and advance publicly engaged scholarship drawing on arts, humanities and design. LCC became one of the first community college members in 2017, and our membership provides access to ideas, colleagues and resources that can help us build on what we’re already doing, and innovate and grow that work. LCC’s IA liaisons Barb Clauer and Melissa Kaplan presented a session at the October 2022 National Gathering on “Collective Ritual through Community-Generated Poetry.” Besides the National Gathering, annual programming that members may access includes research and demonstration projects, publications, webinars, fellowships and scholarships for students.

More details and the proposal submission form are located at Imagining America’s Call for Participation. Feel free to contact Barb at clauerb@lcc.edu or Melissa at kaplanm@lcc.edu if you’d like to learn about their experiences with Imagining America and how participation may benefit you and your students.
